Bird Watching in Chikmagalur

 During my recent visit to Chikmagalur, I found out that the bird watching in Chikmagalur is not as good as I expected. Most of the birds are found in the Talacauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, which is quite far from Chikmagalur town. There are some birds that are found in the Talacauvery Wildlife Sanctuary that are not found in the other parts of the Talacauvery Wildlife Sanctuary. About the only thing that's changed since the last time I visited Chikmagalur is that I now have a better camera.



Birds are like our music, they feel the rhythm of our heart, they feel the pulse of our life, they feel the rhythm of our world, they sing us to sleep, they sing us awake, they teach us our language, they tell us our story, they help us to remember our dreams, they help us to see the world, they help the blind to see, they help us to heal our wounds, they heal us from pain, they teach us to fly, they teach us to swim, they teach us to love, they teach us to live, they teach us to die.

The bird watching in Chikmagalur is mainly dependent on the presence of water bodies in the district. The district is known for its abundant water bodies. The Rapti river, the biggest river in the district, is the main water body, which is also the lifeline of the district. The Rapti River is dammed at Chikmagalur, which is the main source of water for the district.

Chikmagalur is the hub of bird watching in the state, while the Dandeli region is one of the best places in the country for bird watching. The bird watching season in Chikmagalur starts in the month of December and continues till February. Other birds you can see during this period are the common kite, the drongo, the green bee-eater, the spotted laughing thrush, the red-vented bulbul, the red-whiskered bulbul, the white-bellied bulbul, the white-eyed bulbul, the white-bellied flowerpecker, the green-backed flowerpecker, the green-winged grosbeak.
