Chikmagalur is located in the South Indian state of Karnataka. The town is known for its natural beauty and rich heritage. The area is also known as the "Nandi dolina" (the Land of the Bull), which is where the famous Nandi (the Bull of Shiva) statue is situated. It is also an important center of pilgrimage for devotees of Shiva, who offer prayers here. Chikmagalur has many illustrious history. It was known as Bandi (Kingdom) in the days of the Vijayanagar empire (AD 1336 to 1565). It was the capital of Chikmagalur kingdom after the demise of the Vijayanagar empire.
